Outfit of the Day - Meetings

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

So, the beauty of being a freelance illustrator/designer is that while I don't have a set dress code for work, I do have to be wary of what to wear at impromptu meetings with my employer.  So...what to wear when the event is professional, but not quite an interview, and the setting is casual yet public?
And to add to this mind-boggling style puzzle is the fact that the weather in NY has been unbearably hot and humid lately and the fact that I often have about a 30 minute subway commute to get to these meeting spots.

I present to you my outfit of the day, worn under such circumstances:

Staring at Stars Dress, Urban Outfitters belt, Rag and Bone Vest, Cole Haan loafers

My noble attempt at professional, yet casual.  To be honest, there wasn't much thought process going on behind this look, just a few mix and match attempts.  I wanted to stick with neutral colors, to wear a dress in this weather, and to definitely keep closed-toe shoes as an option.  Perhaps the key is to mix one casual garment as a base layered with pieces that would fit into a professional dress code.  In this case, I've used a casual day dress (making sure the length is not too short) as my base.  Then, the loafers and black vest add a dressier work element to the outfit.

Anyone ever encounter professional situations like this?  What do you wear then?

And...I still obviously need to figure out a way to capture photos of myself.  Lame self-shot pictures and self-timers capturing myself at odd angles are clearly not doing the trick.  Any suggestions?
